It's raining Magnets and Metal Bars!
Posted on January 06 2017
Hope your Holiday season was a good one. I have some progress to report. We've received some of the small crucial parts for production.
One of the very first design goals was to have the magnets in the slide be held in place mechanically. We absolutely didn't want to rely on any kind of adhesive. This required us to design and manufacture a custom magnet that was wedge shaped that could be pressed into place a locked in.
The first batch of 20,000 are ready to be magnetized. The next step is to stack them in to sleeves of 20+ and put them into a Helmholtz coil magnetizer. Check out the video below.
Here's a quick video that shows the underwhelming process of magnetizing magnets using a Helmholtz coil magnetizer.
The metal bars have arrived and we're ready to spin up production on the brackets. I'll see if I can get some videos of the production process. In short the 2 metal bars are placed into the mold, the mold closes, then the plastic in injected encasing the metal except the front face of the metal bar. This was a tough process to iron.
That's all for now. I'll keep you posted as I get updates from the manufacturer. Happy New Year and I'll talk to you soon.
